Travel direction controlling installations for vehicles, for example for railway vehicles
Abstract
Abstract 1,081,474. Automatic train control. SIEMENS A.G. June 17, 1965 [June 19, 1964], No. 25769/65. Heading B7N. In an arrangement for controlling the direction of drive of a rail vehicle capable of moving in either direction with either end of the vehicle leading, means are provided for supplying the vehicle with a route direction signal via a pickup arrangement which also supplies the vehicle with an indication of its orientation on the track. The vehicle is provided with two pickup coils A, B, one on either side of the longitudinal centre line of the vehicle which cooperate with crossed loops which extend alternately adjacent one rail then adjacent the other rail of the track. The two coils are connected to a comparison device V which connects the coil receiving the maximum signal to direction determining device R, in addition the signal is applied to a transducer U which supplies a route direction signal to the device R. The device R determines from the signal and the coil receiving maximum signal the movement order for controlling travel direction switch F. The crossings in the loop conductors are used in conjunction with counter Z and the direction signal to indicate the position of the vehicle and on change over from one loop to the next an additional signal is transmitted to the vehicle which returns the counter to zero.
