Process for the manufacture of drawn synthetic filaments
Abstract
Abstract 1,069,696. Melt spinning and drawing synthetic filaments. TOYO RAYON KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Aug. 4, 1964 [July 31, 1963], No. 31303/64. Heading B5B. In a continuous process for melt spinning and drawing synthetic filaments they are drawn immediately after they have been melt-spun and have been caused to solidify and harden by cooling to such an extent that their tenacity at ordinary atmospheric temperature is above 0À8 gram per denier. An oil preparation which is free from water or contains water in a proportion of up to 10% by weight of the oil and dispersed in the oil is applied to the hardened filaments as they pass from the spinning zone to the drawing zone. The oil present in the oil preparation may be a fatty oil or a mineral lubricating oil of the spindle oil type having a Redwood viscosity in the range 40-300 seconds at 70‹ F. with a small proportion of a nonionic surface active compound. The drawn filaments are continuously wound up on a collecting means such as a spool and during the passage from the drawing zone to the wind-up means may have applied to them an oil preparation containing 50 to 75% by weight of water.
