Abstract

Abstract 1,069,239. Pipe joints; joint-making packing. DEUTSCHE STEINZEUGUND KUNSTSTOFFWARENFABRIK FUR KANALISATION UND CHEMISCHE INDUSTRIE. A pipe socket 16 has an elastic sealing-ring 2 mounted on its inner wall by means of an element 4 which, in its relaxed state (Fig. 1, not shown), is smaller in diameter than the inside of the socket and at least one projecting element 10 to engage a pipe spigot 22 which is of greater external diameter than the inside of the ring in its relaxed state, the said sealing ring 2 forming a mould to contain a sealing compound 26 which adheres to the inside of the socket and is securely attached to the sealing ring but does not extend beyond the top of the ring. The element 10 is a flange on the inner end of which is an annular ring 12. The sealing ring in its relaxed state is inserted into the socket so that the element 4 engages in an internal groove 14. A sealing compound such as a bituminous substance, a cold-hardening resin or a synthetic resin foam 16 is then poured into it. In other embodiments the element 10 has auxiliary lips projecting towards the socket mouth and located on the element 10 halfway between the ring 12 and its base and/or on the ring 12 (Figs. 6, 7 and 10 to 13, not shown) or the flange may be replaced by an annulus having a cross-section like a right-angled triangle with the hypotenuse towards the mouth of the socket (Figs. 4, 5, 8, 9, not shown).
