Abstract

Abstract In a crimping process, two (or more) running yarns (or filaments or bundles thereof) are plied together along a length, heat-set and then pulled apart at the same speed in different directions. The yarns are fed, before or after plying, through a guiding device, comprising fixed, pivotable or slidable rollers, pulleys or rods, which equalises the tensions of the respective yarns. Thus, the device, under the action of a high yarn tension, moves transversely and to one side or the other of the extended axis of plying (and in the plane of the direction of yarn travel to and from the plied length) into a position such that (a) the high tension yarn is magnetically e.g. eddy current, and/or mechanically braked e.g. by sliding contact with porcelain cylindircal segments, and a low tension yarn is removed from a braking influence or (b) the high tension yarn is temporarily removed from engagement with a corresponding feed roller and the low tension yarn is restored thereto as by displacement of the yarns into and from a peripheral recess, or one of two such recesses, in one of a pair of feed rollers or (c) the yarn path between conical feed rollers, and therefor the yarn speeds, are correctively adjusted.
