Improvements in anchor bolts
Abstract
Abstract 1,020,865. Bolts; nuts; screw-sockets; locking nuts. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. June 8, 1962 [June 15, 1961], No. 21634/61. Heading F2H. A bolt, for anchoring in a bore-hole in an underground mine, has a rod 3 and a shorter tube 1 from which the rod therefore protrudes, the insertable end of the rod bearing a wedgenut 6 so that when the rod is rotated in one direction, the nut is moved towards the tube 1 to spread two anchoring jaws 10 pivoted to the tube at 12. The nut 6 has two opposed partcylindrical and converging sides 5 and two opposed parallel sides 7, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), with wedge-shaped projections 8 with converging edges for co-action with correspondingly formed edges at the mouth of the jaws 10. A circular thrust plate 17 bearing a smaller plate 18 is welded to the outer end of the tube 1 and on either side of these plates a sleeve 19 and a nut 20 are secured by pins 19a, 20a (the latter being tapered) to the rod 3 to prevent relative axial movement between the rod 3 and tube 1. A handle 21 is welded to the locked nut 20.
