Self-retracting syringe/needle unit
Abstract
Abstract The present invention relates to medical syringes to be used only once. The syringe according to the invention comprises, in addition to the normal constituent parts of a conventional syringe, syringe body 2, plunger 12 and needle 3, a protective sheath 1 in which the body and the syringe automatically retract under the action of a spring 5 once the injection has been carried out. The sheath 1 comprises a device consisting of flexible lugs 6 which hold the body 2 by compressing the spring until the plunger spreads these lugs apart and releases the spring by the action of a ring 11 integral with the head of the plunger. Several devices thus prevent the syringe needle unit from escaping from the sheath through one or other of its ends. Application to the automatic neutralising of a disposable syringe which, after use, cannot be reused and cannot cause accidental pricking injury.
