Hard disc with write enable switch - has electro-mechanical switch which brings conducting rails in line with supply rails of write operation to protect against virus
Abstract
Abstract The hard disc has separate supplies for read and write operations. Thea supply for the latter is picked up from two rails (5) by cursors connected to the read/write arm of the hard disc. An insulating zone (6) of a switch (9) prevents the write operation to an area of the disc surface. Operation of the switch brings conducting rails (7) in line with rails 5, thus permitting the write operation over the whole disc surface. The switch can be operated from outside the hard disc casing by a mechanical link (8). The hard disc is arranged such that applications programmes and files which could not be modified or erased are located in the area protected by the switch. ADVANTAGE - Files saved from inadvertent erasure, malicious erasure or modification by computer "virus".
