Abstract

Abstract The boot sole comprises a stiffener element or waist (shank) piece 1 made from rigid plastic which, at least in the metatarso-phalangeal zone, has the form of transverse slats 3 spaced and separated by thinner bridges 4, and on which is attached, by overmoulding, a flexible plastic 6. The bridges 4 may be shaped in order to break on first use and render the slats 3 independent. The thicknesses of overmoulded material 6 may be different on and under the waist (shank) piece 1. The sole offers good transverse rigidity and great longitudinal flexibility, hence its interest for cross-country skiing.
