Method and system for communicating information relating to road traffic

Abstract

Abstract The invention relates to a method and a system for informing the users of a road network of traffic conditions on this network. The road network belongs to a territory divided into several geographical areas. The information relating to all of the geographical areas of the territory is sent out in the form of coded signals from a single transmitter with sufficient range to cover the whole of the territory. Each user who so desires possesses a set for receiving and displaying information sent out, and he predetermines the area or areas in which he wants to know the traffic conditions, independently of the area which he is in, and the receiving and display set permits him to display, at any moment, the information relating to any one of the predetermined areas. The system for implementing this method comprises a transmitter 1, 2 and a plurality of receiving sets available to users. Each receiving set comprises, in a preferred embodiment, a receiving unit 5, 6 for the information, a processing unit comprising a microprocessor 8 associated with a control keyboard 9 permitting the user to choose the geographical areas in which he wants to know the traffic conditions, and a display unit 11, 12 comprising mainly a screen 12 for display of the information processed by the microprocessor.
