Abstract The invention relates to an intermediate sole (midsole) formed from two materials of different hardnesses. This sole consists of a single layer 1 formed from the material of lower hardness and comprises, at the level of the half sole (forepart) along its outer edge, at least one insert 2 formed from the material of greater hardness, the insert or inserts being arranged so as to produce, along the outer edge of the half sole (forepart), a succession of zones produced alternately from material of lower hardness and from material of greater hardness.
