Abstract
Abstract The bumper comprises a rigid structure extending around the front of the vehicle, and extending down to the ground. The structure is suspended from a number of supports (5a-5d), each of which is elastic, allowing the bumper to move relative to the vehicle, backwards and parallel to the ground. Each support comprises a of springs joined at the upper end to a frame extending across the vehicle. At least one switch (6) is arranged so that its operating lever is in contact with a cam surface (7) on the back of the bumper structure. In response to any movement of the bumper, the switch is operated to control braking of the vehicle.
