Abstract
Abstract The system sends an interrogator wave (2) to a responder station (30) which returns the wave after modulation in a predetermined code. The interrogator station has a photodetector (26) and a circuit for identifying the modulation code while the responder station has a photoexcitable optic medium (1) with a variable index to capture the interrogator wave A pump wave interferes with the interrogator wave in the medium to return it with a wave front joined with the wave front received by the medium. The interrogator and pump waves are transmitted by two lasers (21,21) associated with the respective stations.
