Vertical axis wind turbine generator - uses parallelogram shaped brackets to hold cylindrical collectors in displaced relative position giving best conversion efficiency
Abstract
Abstract Upper and lower angled brackets (4), shaped as parallelograms, are fixed horizontally centered on the vertical shaft (3). Semi-cylindrical collectors (1,2) are attached to these brackets, which establish the relative location of the collectors. A sprocket (5) fitted to the shaft (3) is chain (7) coupled to a sprocket (8) fitted to the shaft of an electric generator (9) mounted (10,11) at the top of the vertical support column (6). The cylinders are displaced forwards w.r.t. each other, and a separation between the planes of the respective faces is opened. The arrangement provides a higher degree of efficiency as it reduces shadowing.
