Abstract
Abstract The torque required to screw and unscrew a plastic or light metallic bottle cap is measured at a station on a production line using a calibrated spring to which the torque is transmitted. The screw cap is gripped by the roughened surface of a conical section housed in the body of the torque measuring instrument. This section is coupled without play by a square element to a housing in the base of a shaft around which the calibrated spring is wound and to which it is attached. The shaft carries a pointer and index which are read against a graduated scale behind a transparent cover. A knurled knob enables the index to be reset to zero.
