Abstract The bicycle pedal (3) has the usual stirrup (2) shaped to take the front end of the users footwear and a lateral strap (4) passing through the rear end of the stirrup. The strap has a metal strip (5) at its free end notched (10) so that when it is pressed into the recess (6) of the light alloy box (7) at the pedal end, it catches behind the box projection (9). The catching action is enforced by the leaf spring (12) so that the strap can withstand vertical pressure. The catch is automatically released by the application of side pressure.
