Abstract
Abstract Glasses and ceramics obtd. from these glasses are described contg. 25-40% SiO2: 2-15% Al2O3, 10-35% CaO, 10-30% Fe2O3, and 2-10% alkali oxide. Also claimed is a compsn. contg. 45%, SiO2, 5.8% Al2O3, 17.6%, Fe2O3, 24% CaO, and 5.8% Na2O. The glass is prepd. by melting and slowly cooling through the range 1250- 1050 deg.C. The compsn. is used for enclosing radioactive wastes. The glass ceramic encapsulates and protects radioactive metal containers against physical, chemical and physico-chemical damage.
