Abstract

Abstract Termination for medium level power cables using linear distribution of the voltage over the termination length to prevent losses etc. due to discharge. The method overcomes the necessity for heating required in some termination techniques and the need in others for an appreciable number of separate elements. The cable has several sleeves along the cable length which can be stretched to fit over each other to form a continuous surface, each sleeve section having integral anti-arcing annulii (17). The sleeve sector closest to the cable insulation and is underlaid by a voltage distribution layer (31). This is itself underlaid by a wound semiconductor ribbon (35), the cable screen being taken out as a braid (14) under the skirt (33) of the lowest outer sleeve itself sealed by a mastic layer (34).
