Hyperfrequency plate antenna - enables variation of transmission and reception fields also multibeam or electronic sweep operation using minimal number of components
Abstract
Abstract A hyperfrequency planar antenna comprises 16 rectangular waveguides (1) joined side by side to form a planar surface and present 32 windows per waveguide on the surface to couple the energy of the guides to the exterior. Each guide (1) is coupled at one end through a transmitter/receiver module (3) and a distributor (5) to a 50 watt pilot transmitter (4) which serves to excite the modules. The distributor (5) uses stripline techniques on 0.8mm teflon glass fibre dielectric and has 16 coaxial RIM outputs to the modules (3). In front of the waveguide surface is located a system of 1120 wire conductors in 14 networks of 80 conductors (13, 14) each lying perpendicular to the waveguide axes. The networks are coplanar with the waveguides and embedded in polyethylene plates. The conductors of a network comprise alternately a plain conductor (13) and a series of connected diodes (15). The antenna uses considerably fewer components than previous such antennas.
