Determining position of points on body surface - uses photosensitive receivers to focus onto luminous point from laser and detects variations in current intensity
Abstract
Abstract Point areas on the surface of a body are illuminated successively in order to form distinct images of these points on photo-sensitive receivers. By using two luminous beams the position of the area can be calculated. A laser (1) emits a coherent light beam (2) to a controlled sweep element (3) which causes the beam to sweep over the surface of a body (5). This forms a series of luminous points (6) on the body at corresponding time instances. Two optical systems (7, 8) focus onto the luminous point from different directions. Semitransparent mirrors (9, 12) allow the image to be formed on the receivers (10, 11, 13, 14). These comprise semiconductor plates on which photodiodes are assembled to form a number of points in lines and columns. Variations in current intensity are determined to find the image position.
