Abstract

Abstract A quick disconnect coupling has self closing valves which seal the ends of the pipes when the coupling is disconnected. When the coupling is connected fluid flows through the inlet (34), through radial holes (35) into the annular space (33). It then flows out through the radial holes (49, 15) to the outlet pipe (14). When the two parts of the coupling are disconnected, the piston (39) is pushed by the spring (46) so that it covers the radial holes (49) whilst the radial holes (15) are covered by the sleeve (5). Thus both pipes are completely sealed off and no fluid is lost.
