Automatic breather valve for medical anaesthetic use - has diaphragm in rotatable sleeve which can be set to give spontaneous or assisted respiration
Abstract
Abstract The automatic breather valve is used with an anaesthetic bag to give either spontaneous or assisted respiration. It comprises a body (1) with an inner chamber (2), a gas entry (3) being on the side. Opposite this is a sleeve (21), holding a diaphragm (27) in place. For spontaneous respiration, the patient breathes in through the bag and exhales. The exhalation closes the diaphragm and is exhausted to atmosphere by passing through aligned holes (23, 24) in the sleeve and another valve (6). For assisted respiration, these holes are closed by turning the sleeve. The gas enters as before and is exhausted by passing directly through the sleeve.
