Abstract
Abstract The device to protect vehicles from impact with a tree growing at the edge of the road is so designed that, if struck by a vehicle tangentially, it tends to deflect the vehicle back onto the road. It consists of two arms (3) each carrying a large even impact plate (7) pivoting about a point (4) between them, attached to a shoe (2) fastened to the tree truck (1), with a leaf spring (5) extending each side of the shoe to hold the arms apart. When one arm is struck tangentially, both arms swing about the central pivot (4), which results in the desired deflection of the vehicle.
