2-Naphthyl alkanol esters prepn - by reacting a benzoyl halide and a 2-naphthyl alkanol
Abstract
Abstract 2-Naphthyl alkanol esters are of formula (I) (where one of the R1 and R2 = H, and the other is H, CH3, C2H5, or CHF2 or R1 and R2 together = methylene, halomethylene or ethylene; or ethylene; R3 and R4 each = alkyl, F Cl, OH, hydrolysable ester, ether or thioether and R5 and R6 each = OH, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, thioether, NO2, NH2, substd. amino or CF3). (I) may be resolved into enantiomorphs before use, or left in the unresolved state. (I) are prepd. by esterification of a substd. benzoyl halide with a substd. naphthyl alkanol pref. in an inert org. solvent such as benzene, toluene, hexane, methylene chloride, CHCl3 or CCl4 at 0-100, pref. -5 to 10 degrees C or at ambient temp. in the presence of an acid halide acceptor. Alternatively a benzoic acid anhydride may be used, or the free a id in the presence of a dehydrating agent.
