Joining method for hollow square structural sections - sliding locking piece has rotary T-head which locks in groove
Abstract
Abstract The structure is made of square tubes having a partly covered recess (26) running axially and centrally along each face. The 'T' headed locking piece (1) slides in the bore of a cylinder (30) located in the centre of the tube. The cylinder is prevented from rotating by ridges. To join a tube perpendicularly to another, the cylinder/locking piece are slid in the tube, by a grub screw (25) passing through the tube wall (24) until the locking piece head locates in the groove. By further axial movement of the screw, the locking piece is made to rotate 90 deg. and the head locks in the groove.
