Electrode implantable in human body - has clip portions with cutting edges movable together into closed position
Abstract
Abstract The electrode has two clip portions ending in cutting surfaces. The portions are distorted mechanically from a first open position where the cutting surfaces are spaced apart and opposite each other, into a second one where the clip is closed. The portions can be in the form of semi-circular arcs, in contact with each other in the closed position, or overlapping. The invention allows the electrode to be accurately placed in position on the heart, without the need for open heart surgery. The clip portions typically form the ends of a coil which is covered by an insulating sleeve. The clip portions are closed by a pair of jaws attached to a positioning device.
