Fabric formed by flocking fibres onto adhesive coated web - is dyed and then heated to simultaneously cure the adhesive and fix the dye by fusion to fibres
Abstract
Abstract A web (e.g. jute, jersey knit) is coated with adhesive (polyester, polyamide, PVC) and fibres (e.g. polyamide) are flocked onto the adhesive coating, the web then being subsequently heated to partially cure the adhesive. The fibres are then dyed (with e.g. a plastisol in a solvent e.g. water, organic) and the web is passed through pref. a two stage oven of which the first is pref. at 120 degrees plus-or-minus 30 degrees C and acts to remove the solvent and the second is pref. at 180 degrees plus-or-minus 30 degrees C and acts to simultaneously finish airing the adhesive and to fix the dye by fusing it so that it penetrates the fibres. Pref. the web is subsequently cooled by passage around a cooling roller and the excess adhesive and dye is removed by rotary brushes. The dye may be applied by rollers, scrapers spray guns etc.
