Cold strip mill working roll surface temp control - - by means of pyrometers and cooling oil spray nozzles
Abstract
Abstract The cross sectional thickness of metal strips being cold rolled is monitored esp. controlled by the monitoring of the working roll surface temp. along their length, which data are used to exert a cooling action on the relevant roll surface sections to obtain a laid down temp. distribution along the roll surface. In the prefd. design a number of pyrometers are arranged parallel to each other along the rolls. These feed their findings to a controller which controls the corresp. cooling oil spraying nozzles. By correct adjustment of the roll surface temp. the stresses applied to the metal strip conform to an optimum pattern resulting in uniform deformation of the strip and hence more uniform thickness.
