Abstract

Abstract Carpets incorporating an earthed sheet of Al, pref. with an underlay of expanded PVC where the heating element comprises a serpentine resistance wire which is insulated, armoured and laid directly on top of the Al sheet and is also protected by a shock-absorbent layer between the sheet and the pile. Pref. the heater element is an 80/20 Ni/Cr core pref. sheathed in PTFE and a slightly overlapped helical winding of polyester tape in a woven metallic (Cu) filament casing. PRef. the shock absorbant layer is an elastic polyurethane foam. Improves protection of the heater element by using highly insulating material to allow the heating element to be incorporated closer to the ground and underneath the intermediate shock absorbent layer.
