Abstract
Abstract A method for repairing a gas turbine component (10) comprises the steps of: • identifying on said gas turbine component (10) a worn out location, where said gas turbine component (10) is damaged; • removing said damaged location, thereby creating a missing zone (18); • manufacturing an insert, which fits into said missing zone (18); • putting said insert into said missing zone (18); • adjusting said insert in said gas turbine component (10); and • joining said adjusted insert to said gas turbine component (10).

A method for repairing a gas turbine component (10), said method comprising the steps of: • identifying on said gas turbine component (10) a worn out location (17), where said gas turbine component (10) is damaged; • removing said damaged location (17), thereby creating a missing zone (18); • manufacturing an insert (28), which fits into said missing zone (18); • putting said insert (28) into said missing zone (18); • adjusting said insert (28) in said gas turbine component (10); and • joining said adjusted insert (28) to said gas turbine component (10); characterised in that • the worn out location (17) is measured/scanned by means of a 3-D scanning/measuring system (20) to get the actual geometry of the missing zone (18), especially as a CAD data; • the nominal geometry for the insert (28) is defined by said actual geometry of the worn out location (17), with respect to certain defined gap tolerances; • the actual geometry of the insert (28) is measured during the manufacture of the insert (28); • the nominal geometry and the actual geometry of the insert (28) are compared; and • an adaptive machining operation of the insert (28) is carried out based on the results from the comparison between the actual and nominal geometries of the insert (28).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
53 words
The method according to claim 1, characterised in that characteristic features (15, 16) of the damaged gas turbine component (10) are used to establish a component specific reference coordinate system (CCS); and the CCS is used as a reference system when comparing the nominal geometry and the actual geometry of the insert (28).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
44 words
The method according to claim 2, characterised in that additional characteristic features such as reference marks (19) are created on the damaged gas turbine component (10), in order to assist in the establishing of the component specific reference coordinate system (CCS) with excellent repeatability.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
22 words
The method according to claim 3, characterised in that the additional characteristic features or reference marks (19) are created by laser engraving.
Claim 5
Independent Claim
37 words
The method according to one of the claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the insert (28) is CNC machined in accordance with the comparison of the nominal geometry and the actual geometry of the insert (28).
Claim 6
Independent Claim
38 words
The method according to one of the claims 1 to 5, characterised in that the measuring of the actual geometry of the insert (28) and the machining of the insert (28) are done in the same fixture (25).
Claim 7
Independent Claim
38 words
The method according to one of the claims 1 to 6, characterised in that the measuring of the actual geometry of the insert (28) and the machining of the insert (28) are combined in one machine tool (25).
Claim 8
Independent Claim
51 words
The method according to one of the claims 1 to 7, characterised in that the insert (28) is built with additional features, such as handles (26), pins or stems, which are not needed for its functionality in the repaired gas turbine component, but allow clamping and assist the adaptive machining operation.
Claim 9
Independent Claim
38 words
The method according to one of the claims 1 to 8, characterised in that the insert (28) is manufactured with additional reference features (19), allowing the measurement system to determine its position and orientation relative to the CCS.
Claim 10
Independent Claim
26 words
The method according to one of the claims 1 to 9, characterised in that the insert (28) comprises additional geometrical fixation means for the joining step.
Claim 11
Independent Claim
34 words
The method according to one of the claims 1 to 10, characterised in that the joining is done by a low heat input generating method, which is optimized to avoid distortion during the joining.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
24 words
The method according to claim 11, characterised in that the joining is done by brazing, laser welding or E-beam welding, or a combination thereof.
Claim 13
Independent Claim
26 words
The method according to one of the claims 1 to 12, characterised in that the insert (28) and gas turbine component (10) are recontoured after joining.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim
23 words
The method according to claim 8, characterised in that the additional features (26) are removed by a machining process after the joining operation.
