Abstract

Abstract The management and use of replicated distributed transactions is facilitated. A distributed synchronous transaction system protocol is provided to manage the replication of distributed transactions for client application instances. The distributed synchronous transaction system allows transactions to be replicated without having the client application instances be aware of other instances to receive the transaction. Further, if a failure occurs during processing of a distributed replicated transaction, the distributed synchronous transaction system manages the recovery of the failure. In such a system, processing groups are managed by comparing at least a portion of a state of a prospective member of a processing group with at least a portion of a group state of the processing group; by updating said at least a portion of the state of said prospective member, should said comparing indicate a difference; and by joining said prospective member to said processing group.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 71 words
A method of managing processing groups of a distributed computing environment, said method comprising: comparing at least a portion of a state of a prospective member of a processing group with at least a portion of a group state of the processing group; updating said at least a portion of the state of said prospective member, should said comparing indicate a difference; and joining said prospective member to said processing group.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 27 words
A method according to claim 1, further comprising: quiescing activity to said group state; and retrieving said group state after quiescing activity, for use in said comparing.
Claim 3
Independent Claim 77 words
A system of managing processing groups of a distributed computing environment, said system comprising: means for comparing at least a portion of a state of a prospective member of a processing group with at least a portion of a group state of the processing group; means for updating said at least a portion of the state of said prospective member, should said comparing indicate a difference; and means for joining said prospective member to said processing group.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 31 words
A system according to claim 3, further comprising: means for quiescing activity to said group state; and means for retrieving said group state after quiescing activity, for use in said comparing.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 95 words
At least one program storage device readable by a machine, tangibly embodying at least one program of instructions executable by the machine to perform a method of managing processing groups of a distributed computing environment, said method comprising: comparing at least a portion of a state of a prospective member of a processing group with at least a portion of a group state of the processing group; updating said at least a portion of the state of said prospective member, should said comparing indicate a difference; and joining said prospective member to said processing group.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 29 words
A program storage device according to claim 5, further comprising: quiescing activity to said group state; and retrieving said group state after quiescing activity, for use in said comparing.
