Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 19
Claim 1
Independent Claim
76 words
A controller for an electromagnetic machine having a stator and a
moving part prefers certain positions with respect to the stator over other
positions, the controller comprising: means for producing a position signal indicative of the position of the
moving part with respect to the stator; and means for controlling the energization of the stator windings in response
to the position signal and for counteracting the said preference of the moving
part for a given position.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
102 words
A controller as claimed in claim 1 in which the means for controlling
include output ripple rejection means responsive to the position signal to
produce a compensating output for energising the stator windings to counter the
said preference, for example a control means implements a controllable
parameter of the machine representated in a rotating reference frame that moves
in synchronism with the back e.m.f. of the machine, movement of the moving
part, or the notional phase currents for a machine output absent the influence of
the preference, or a controllable parameter of the machine represented in the α,
β, 0 reference frame.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
34 words
A controller as claimed in claim 2 in which the output ripple rejection
means are operable to produce the compensating output as a signal indicative of
the current required to actively cancel the preference.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
42 words
A controller as claimed in claim 2 in which the means for controlling
further include control law means responsive to the position signal and an
output demand signal to produce stator winding control signals in combination
with the output ripple rejection means.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
52 words
A controller as claimed in claim 2, 3 or 4, including summing means for
summing the compensating output of the output ripple rejection means with the
output demand signal to produce a summed output, the means for controlling
also being responsive to the summed output to produce the stator winding
control signals.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
63 words
A controller as claimed in claim 2, 3 or 4, including means for producing
feedback signals indicative of the winding energization, and summing means
for summing the compensating output of the output ripple rejection means with
the feedback signals to produce a summed output, the means for controlling
also being responsive to the summed output to produce for controlling
energization of the machine.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
65 words
A controller as claimed in claim 2, 3 or 4, including means for producing
feedback signals indicative of winding energization, which feedback signals are
supplied to the means for controlling, and summing means for summing the
compensating output of the output ripple rejection means with stator winding
control signals from the means for controlling to produce a summed output for
controlling energization of the machine.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
20 words
A controller as claimed in claim 6 or 7 in which the feedback signals are
proportional to the winding current.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
28 words
A controller as claimed in any of claims 1 to 8 arranged to operate the
machine as a motor in which the output characteristic is torque or force.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
19 words
A drive system comprising an electromagnetic machine and a controller
as claimed in any of claims 1 to 9.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
44 words
A drive system as claimed in claim 10 in which the moving part is a rotor
arranged to rotate relative to the stator and in which the position of the moving
part is the angular position of the rotor with respect to the stator.
Claim 12
Independent Claim
73 words
A method of energising an electromagnetic machine having a stator and
a moving part which prefers certain positions with respect to the stator over
other positions, the method comprising: producing a position signal indicative of the position of the moving part
with respect to the stator; and controlling the energization of the stator windings in response to the
position signal to counteract the said preference of the moving part for a given
position.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim
28 words
A method as claimed in claim 12 in which counteracting the said
preference includes rejecting output ripple in response to the position signals to
produce a compensating output.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim
42 words
A method as claimed in claim 13 including controlling the energization
in response to the position signals and a machine output demand signal
according to a control law to produce stator winding control signals in
combination with the output ripple rejection signal.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim
32 words
A method as claimed in claim 13 or 14 including summing the
compensating output with the output demand signal to produce a summed
output and controlling the energization from the summed output.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim
40 words
A controller as claimed in claim 13 or 14, including producing feedback
signals indicative of the winding energization and summing the compensating
output with the feedback signals to produce a summed output and controlling
the energization from the summed output
Claim 17
Dependent Claim
45 words
A controller as claimed in claim 13 or 14 in which the feedback signals
indicative of winding energization are used to produce control signals and the
compensating output is summed with the control signals to produce the summed
output for controlling energization of the machine.
Claim 18
Dependent Claim
19 words
A method as claimed in claim 16 or 17 in which the feedback signals are
proportional to winding current.
Claim 19
Independent Claim
32 words
A method for controlling an electromagnetic machine as claimed in any
of claims 12 to 18 to operate the machine as a motor in which the output
characteristic is torque or force.
