Abstract The method involves a control system containing. a speed governor, an automatic braking system and an expanded or two conventional distance controllers allowing values greater than the set desired speed and less than the desired distance to the preceding vehicle depending on vehicle operating values and if appropriate the information system. An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for regulating the driving characteristics of a motor vehicle
