Claim 1
Independent Claim 138 words
A head-protecting air bag apparatus comprising: an air bag which is adapted to be fixed to a vehicle body so that said air bag extends from a pillar along a roof side rail, and one of a front end and a rear end of which is fixed to an inflator, characterized in that: said air bag comprises: at an intermediate portion thereof, a plurality of noninflatable portions which intersect a tension line connecting said front and rear ends when said air bag is expanded, extend in a substantially vertical direction, and are located at a roof side region corresponding to the roof side rail; and a pillar guide portion comprising a portion corresponding to the pillar and an extended portion extending to a noninflatable portion of said plurality of noninflatable portions which is adjacent to said one end.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 35 words
The head-protecting air bag apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said head-protecting air bag is covered by a pillar garnish and by a cover made of a material which is softer than the pillar garnish.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 17 words
The head-protecting air bag apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said cover is a roof head lining.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 46 words
The head-protecting air bag apparatus according to claim 3, wherein an end portion of said extended portion continuous with said one of said noninflatable portions is disposed in a vicinity of a fixing portion at which the roof head lining is fixed to the vehicle body.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 45 words
The head-protecting air bag apparatus according to claim 4, wherein another end portion of said extended portion continuous with said portion corresponding to the pillar is disposed in a vicinity of a fixing portion at which the pillar garnish is fixed to the vehicle body.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 28 words
The head-protecting air bag apparatus according to any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein a shape of said air bag, when expanded, is substantially of a parallelogram.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 117 words
The head-protecting air bag apparatus according to any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein said air bag has a lower noninflatable portion in a region located below said portion of said pillar guide portion corresponding to the pillar when said air bag is expanded, and has a connecting portion which is in a region located below said extended portion of said pillar guide portion when said air bag is expanded, which connects said lower noninflatable portion and said one of said noninflatable portions, and which is a noninflatable portion, and has an inflatable portion which is in a region located below said connecting portion when said air bag is expanded, and which intersects said tension line.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 27 words
The head-protecting air bag apparatus according to any one of claims 1 to 7, wherein said pillar is one of a front pillar and a quarter pillar.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 39 words
The head-protecting air bag apparatus according to any one of claims 1 to 8, wherein said extended portion extends substantially parallel to the roof side rail, and said one of said noninflatable portions is inclined toward said extended portion.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 38 words
The head-protecting air bag apparatus according to claim 9, wherein each of other noninflatable portions of said plurality of noninflatable portions is formed in a bow shape in which a central portion bulges toward said pillar guide portion.
