Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 17
Claim 1
Independent Claim 111 words
A process for improving the activity of a catalyst composition comprising a particulate porous support comprising gamma alumina and amorphous alumina, having a surface area of at least 100 square meters (as measured by nitrogen adsorption) and a pore volume of at least 0.25 cubic centimeters per gram (as measured by mercury porosimetry), and impregnated with one or more catalytically active metals, by the steps of: (1) wetting the catalyst composition by contact with a chelating agent in a carrier liquid; (2) aging the so-wetted substrate while wet; (3) drying the so-aged substrate at a temperature and under conditions to substantially volatilize the carrier liquid; and (4) calcining the so-dried substrate.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 84 words
A process for preparing a catalyst composition comprising the steps of: (1) impregnating a particulate porous support comprising gamma alumina and amorphous alumina, with one or more catalytically active metals; (2) prior to, concurrently with or subsequent to step (1), wetting the support by contact with a chelating agent in a carrier liquid; (3) aging the so-wetted impregnated support while wet; (4) drying the so-aged support at a temperature and under conditions to substantially volatilize the carrier liquid; and (5) calcining the so-dried support.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 85 words
A process for regenerating a spent catalyst composition comprising a particulate porous support comprising gamma alumina and amorphous alumina, impregnated with one or more catalytically active metals, comprising the steps of: (1) treating the spent catalyst to remove carbonaceous deposits; (2) wetting the so-treated support by contact with a chelating agent in a carrier liquid; (3) aging the so-wetted support while wet; (4) drying the so-aged support at a temperature and under conditions to substantially volatilize the carrier liquid; and (5) calcining the so-dried support.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 29 words
The process of claims 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that the chelating agent possesses a high stability constant with respect to the catalytically active metals of the catalyst.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 20 words
The process of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the chelating agent is ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid or a derivative thereof.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 28 words
The process of claims 1 to 5, characterized in that the chelating agent is selected from the group consisting of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, diammonium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, tris(2-aminoethyl)amine and triethylenetetraamine.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 25 words
The process of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the aged substrate is dried at a temperature in the range of 100°C to 250°C.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 23 words
The process of claims 1 to 7, characterized in that the aged substrate is dried with the aid of a forced air heater.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 58 words
The process of claims 1 to 8, characterized in that the dried substrate is calcined in a first stage at a temperature which is sufficient high to drive off or decompose the chelating agent but which is not so high that the chelating agents combust to form carbonaceous deposits, followed by a second stage at normal calcining temperatures.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 36 words
A process for the catalytic hydrodesulfurization of a hydrocarbon-containing feed comprising the step of contacting the feed under hydrodesulfurization conditions with the catalyst prepared by the process according to any one of claims 1 to 9.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 36 words
A process for the catalytic hydrodenitrogenation of a hydrocarbon-containing feed comprising the step of contacting the feed under hydrodenitrogenation conditions with the catalyst prepared by the process according to any one of claims 1 to 9.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 36 words
A process for the catalytic hydroconversion of a hydrocarbon-containing feed comprising the step of contacting the feed under hydroconversion conditions with the catalyst prepared by the process according to any one of claims 1 to 9.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 36 words
A process for the catalytic hydrodemetallation of a hydrocarbon-containing feed comprising the step of contacting the feed under hydrodemetallation conditions with the catalyst prepared by the process according to any one of claims 1 to 9.
