Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 17
Claim 1
Independent Claim
25 words
A protective element characterised by comprising a first layer (2) adjacent a multicelled
element (4) and in which the multicelled element can be visually inspected.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
33 words
A protective element as claimed in claim 1, characterised by further comprising a second
layer (6), the first and second layers (4, 6) being arranged on opposite sides of the
multicelled element (4).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
57 words
A protective element as claimed in claim 1 or 2, characterised in that, in use, the first
layer (2) faces a direction of threat and the second layer (6) faces towards the item being
protected, and the first layer transmits impact to the multicelled element, and the second
layer acts as a support for the multicelled element.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
28 words
A protective element as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that
the multicelled element (4) has open cells with adjacent cells separated by walls.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
17 words
A protective element as claimed in claim 4, characterised in that adjacent cells share a
common wall.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
26 words
A protective element as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that
the walls of the multicelled element (4) are of non-uniform thickness.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
30 words
A protective element as claimed in claim 3, in which the first layer (2) is thicker than the
second layer (6) in order to provide improved resistance to impact loads.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
17 words
A protective element as claimed in claim 3, in which the second layer (6) is a foam.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
22 words
A protective element as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, in which the first
layer (2) is a thermoplastic material.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
53 words
A protective element as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, characterised in that
the multicelled element is covered with a layer whose appearance is different to that of
the multicelled element such that damage to the multicelled element can be seen by virtue
of a change in appearance of the layer.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
19 words
A protective element as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, in which the first
layer is transparent.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
20 words
A protective element as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 10, in which the first layer is
translucent.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim
18 words
An item of protective clothing comprising a protective element as claimed in any one of
the preceding claims.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim
27 words
An item of protective clothing as claimed in claim 13, characterised in that the protective
clothing is a shin pad, leg pad, ankle pad, jacket or helmet.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim
21 words
An item of protective clothing as claimed in claim 13, characterised in that the protective
clothing is an item of footwear.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim
13 words
An item of protective clothing, characterised in that the item is a boot.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim
16 words
An insole comprising a protective element as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 12.
