Claim 1
Independent Claim
166 words
An apparatus for controlling operation of an engine that includes a passage (20; 52) for supplying airflow to the engine (1) and a fuel injection valve (11), means (23; 53) for adjusting airflow supplied to the engine (1) from the supplying means (20; 52), means (30) for actuating the adjusting means (23; 53) based on the driving state of the engine to control the airflow supplied to the engine (1), wherein said engine (1) combusts air-fuel mixture to obtain its torque, and wherein said torque of the engine selectively increases and decreases in accordance with a ratio of air to fuel in rich air-fuel mixture, stoichiometrical air-fuel mixture and lean air-fuel mixture selected based on driving state of the engine, said apparatus being characterized by means (30) for determining an occurrence of a change between the stoichiometric air-fuel mixture and the lean air-fuel mixture, said determining means including means (30) for prohibiting a deviation between the engine torques based on the change of the air-fuel mixtures.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
32 words
The apparatus as set forth in Claim 1, characterized by means (30) for controlling the actuating means to harmonize the air-fuel mixture currently combusting in the engine with the stoichiometrical air-fuel mixture.
Claim 3
Independent Claim
74 words
The apparatus as set forth in Claims 1 or 2, characterized in that said prohibiting means compensates the deviation between the engine torques based on a first correction value selected in a sequentially variable range, wherein said prohibiting means selects said first correction value greater than a reference value for the lean air-fuel mixture, and wherein said prohibiting means selects said first correction value smaller than the reference value for the rich air-fuel mixture.
Claim 4
Independent Claim
51 words
The apparatus as set forth in anyone of the preceding claims, characterized in that said control means includes means (30) for computing a second correction value based on an average magnitude of the first correction value, and wherein said control mean controls the adjusting means based on the second correction means.
Claim 5
Independent Claim
33 words
The apparatus as set forth in anyone of the preceding claims, characterized in that said adjusting means includes a valve means (23; 53) that adjust amount of the air flowing in the passage.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
36 words
The apparatus as set forth in Claim 5, characterized in that said airflow supplying passage includes an air intake passage (20) and said valve means includes a throttle valve (23) located in the air intake passage.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
28 words
The apparatus as set forth in Claim 6, characterized in that said control means controls an opening size of the throttle valve based on the second correction value.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
40 words
The apparatus as set forth in Claim 5, characterized in that said airflow supplying passage includes an exhaust gas recirculation passage (52) and said valve means includes an exhaust gas recirculation valve (53) located in the exhaust gas recirculation passage.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
45 words
The apparatus as set forth in Claim 5, characterized in that said airflow supplying means includes a bypass passage connected to an air intake passage to bypass a throttle valve and said valve means includes an idle speed control valve located in the bypass passage.
Claim 10
Independent Claim
27 words
The apparatus as set forth in anyone of the preceding claims, further comprising an electric control unit (30) for forming said actuating means and said control means.
