An accessory (10, 70, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500) for an endoscope, comprising a tube, (11) said tube (11) having
a flexible portion at least at a distal end portion thereof, wherein a
plurality of slits (15) extending along the axis of said tube (11) are formed on said
flexible portion to define bendable band sections (16), characterised in that a mechanism
including a wire (13) is provided for applying force in such direction that said
flexible portion is compressed along the axis of said tube (11), said wire (13) being
connected with its distal end to an end piece (14, 114, 314, 414, 514) connected to the distal end of
said tube (11), and said bendable band sections (16) being adapted to expand radially due to said
force applied by said wire (13) thereby forming a plurality of openings between
said bendable band sections (16).

with a connector portion provided at a proximal end of
said tube (11), an external device being connected with said
connector portion.
