Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 19
Claim 1
Independent Claim 98 words
A medical appliance for the treatment of a portion of blood vessel (7) by means of ionizing radiation, comprising a catheter (11,13,24-30), a radioactive radiation emitter (41,46,47), means for advancing, resp. removing the radioactive radiation emitter into, resp. from, the portion of the blood vessel, characterized by a plurality of centering means (14,23,30) distributed along the catheter in correspondence of the emitter for radially centering said emitter in said blood vessel to ensure equal radial distance to the vessel wall, said centering means forming a perfusion channel between the catheter and the vessel wall permitting blood flow therethrough.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 23 words
A medical appliance according to claim 1, wherein the radioactive radiation emitter (41, 46, 47) is movable within the catheter (11, 13, 24-30).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 46 words
A medical appliance according to any preceding claim, wherein said centering means comprise a brush with flexible bristles (14) surrounding said catheter (11), and wherein an outer tube (18) is mounted in sliding fit on the catheter to enclose and free the bristles of the brush.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 51 words
A medical appliance according to any of claims 1 or 2, wherein said centering: means comprise an inner channel in said catheter, said channel being provided with a plurality of lateral apertures (23) regularly spaced around the catheter, and wherein said inner channel is fed by a physiological solution under pressure.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 21 words
A medical appliance according to any of claims 1 or 2, wherein said centering means comprise a self expandable temporary stent.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 82 words
A medical appliance according to any of claims 1, 2 or 5, wherein the catheter comprises an end piece (24), a tubular conduit (25) at a distance from the end piece, a braided self expandable temporary stent (30) having one end affixed to the tubular conduit (25) and the other end affixed to the end piece (24), and a tube (26) coaxial to and in sliding fit with said tubular conduit (25) for enclosing, resp. freeing, the self expandable temporary stent (30).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 18 words
A medical appliance according to any preceding claim, wherein the catheter is a catheter for percutaneous transluminal angioplasty.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 24 words
A medical appliance according to any preceding claim, wherein the radioactive radiation emitter (4, 40, 41, 45, 46, 47) is a beta radiation emitter.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 21 words
A medical appliance according to any preceding claim, wherein the radioactive radiation emitter (4, 40, 45, 46, 47) is a filament.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 24 words
A medical appliance according to claim 8 or 9, wherein the radioactive radiation emitter (4, 40, 41, 45, 46, 47) is of 90 Yttrium.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 33 words
A medical appliance according to claim 8, wherein the radioactive radiation emitter (4, 40, 45, 46, 47) is a filament of 90 Yttrium with a diameter equal to or less than 0.9 mm.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 29 words
A medical appliance according to claim 8, wherein the radioactive radiation emitter (4, 40, 45, 46, 47) is a filament of 90 Yttrium which is heat elaborated under vacuum.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 22 words
A medical appliance according to claim 11 or 12, wherein the filament has a diameter equal to or less than 0.2 mm.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 39 words
A medical appliance according to any preceding claim, wherein the catheter comprises a guide wire (2) in sliding fit therein, and wherein the radioactive radiation emitter is a filament (4, 40, 45, 46, 47) affixed to said guide wire.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 41 words
A medical appliance according to any of claims 1 to 13, wherein the catheter comprises a guide wire (2) in sliding fit therein, and wherein the radioactive radiation emitter is a filament (45, 46, 47) coiled around the said guide wire.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 47 words
A medical appliance according to any of claims 1 to 13, wherein the catheter comprises a guide wire in sliding fit therein, and wherein the radioactive radiation emitter (4, 40, 45, 46, 47) is a filament affixed to a wire intended to replace the said guide wire.
Claim 17
Dependent Claim 44 words
A medical appliance according to any of claims 1 to 13, wherein the catheter comprises a guide wire in sliding fit therein, and wherein the radioactive radiation emitter (45, 46, 47) is a filament coiled around a wire intended to replace the guide wire.
Claim 18
Dependent Claim 25 words
A medical appliance according to any of claims 14 to 17, wherein the radioactive radiation emitter is a filament affixed to a wire of titanium.
Claim 19
Dependent Claim 25 words
