Abstract

Abstract A tyre comprising an elongated main tread strip (1) of high resistivity tread compound having a transverse width TR characterised by a sub-tread (2) disposed in contact with the radially inner surface of the main tread strip (1) and a longitudinally extending conducting strip (3) of low resistivity tyre compound having a volume resistivity of less than 10 8 ohm-cm disposed at the axial edge of the transverse width TR of the main tread strip (1), the conducting strip extending from the radially outer surface of the main tread strip (1) to its radially inner surface to contact the sub-tread (2), the sub-tread (2) extending axially the whole transverse width TR of the main tread strip (1).

Claim 1
Independent Claim 117 words
A tyre comprising an elongated main tread strip (1) of high resistivity tread compound having a transverse width TR characterised by a sub-tread (2) disposed in contact with the radially inner surface of the main tread strip (1) and a longitudinally extending conducting strip (3) of low resistivity tyre compound having a volume resistivity of less than 10 8 ohm-cm disposed at the axial edge of the transverse width TR of the main tread strip (1), the conducting strip extending from the radially outer surface of the main tread strip (1) to its radially inner surface to contact the sub-tread (2), the sub-tread (2) extending axially the whole transverse width TR of the main tread strip (1).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 24 words
A tyre according to claim 1, characterised in that two conducting strips (3) are provided, one at each axial edge of the tread strip.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 31 words
A tyre according to either of claims 1 or 2, characterised in that the conducting strip or strips are the tread wings which form the tyre tread shoulders after tyre manufacture.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 37 words
A tyre according to any of claims 1, 2 or 3, characterised in that the width of the or each conducting strip is in the range of 5 to 25% of the width of the tyre tread.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 24 words
A tyre according to any of claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the conducting strip has a longitudinally extending tread groove formed therein.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 30 words
A tyre according to any of claims 1 to 5, characterised in that the conducting strip has a width greater than the width of the widest longitudinally extending tread groove.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 30 words
A tyre according to any of claims 1 to 6, characterised in that the volume resistivity of the compound of the conducting strip is less than 10 6 ohm cm.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 26 words
A tyre according to any of claims 1 to 7, characterised in that the high resistivity compound comprises silica as the major reinforcement or filler material.
