Abstract

Abstract A cover or lid assembly (10) is provided for EMI/RFI shielding. The cover or lid (11) is used in combination with an electrical assembly having an electrical ground, at least one electronic component electrically connected to the assembly, a conductive frame (20), disposed about the electronic component. The conductive frame is electrically connected to the ground. An electrically conductive adhesive (12) is disposed continuously between the frame and the lid to mount the lid to the conductive frame to shield the electronic component from electromagnetic and radio frequency interference.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 50 words
An electromagnetic and radio frequency interference shield assembly comprising: a conductive frame having at least a mounting surface; a lid attached to said frame mounting surface; and an electrically conductive adhesive disposed continuously between the conductive frame mounting surface and said lid to mount said lid to said conductive frame.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 58 words
An assembly as claimed in claim 1, said electrical assembly having an electrical ground, at least one electronic component electrically connected to the assembly, and the conductive frame being disposed about the electronic component and being electrically connected to said ground, and said lid and electrically conductive adhesive forming a shielding cover for said electronic component or components.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 108 words
An assembly as claimed in claim or 2, wherein the electrically conductive adhesive comprises: a planar substrate having numerous passageways through the substrate from one side to the other in which the passageways are defined by a plurality of walls of a material making up the substrate. said walls being covered with a continuous layer of conductive metal; said layer covering said walls but leaving the passageways open from said one side to the other; and said open passageways being filled with an adhesive resin, thereby forming an electrically conductive film which permits electrical current to flow from said lid, through the planar substrate, to said conductive frame.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 14 words
An assembly as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein said lid is substantially planar.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 16 words
As assembly as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein said lid is formed of a metal.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 21 words
An assembly as claimed in any preceding claim, wherein said lid has a surface treatment to enhance resistance to environmental conditions.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 21 words
An assembly as claimed in any of claims 1 to 4, wherein said lid is constructed of an unmetallized plastic material.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 45 words
An assembly as claimed in claim 7, wherein said lid has a continuous layer of said conductive adhesive disposed on one side thereof which provides electromagnetic and radio frequency interference shielding and a bonding mechanism fro adhesively electrically mounting said lid to said conductive frame.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 21 words
An assembly as claimed in any of claims 1 to 4, wherein said lid is formed of a metallized plastic material.
