Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 15
Claim 1
Independent Claim
63 words
A method for varying the level of an alerting indicator of a radiotelephone, comprising the steps of: operating a user interface for inputting information to a controller of the radiotelephone, the information specifying that the level of the alerting indicator be adjusted; and in response to the inputted information, adjusting the level of the alerting indicator while an incoming call is being received.
Claim 2
Independent Claim
63 words
A method for decreasing the level of an alerting indicator of a radiotelephone, comprising the steps of: operating a user interface for inputting information to a controller of the radiotelephone, the information specifying that the level of the alerting indicator be reduced; and in response to the input information, reducing the level of the alerting indicator whilst an incoming call is being received
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
32 words
A method as set forth in claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the alerting indicator is comprised of at least one of a vibration device, an audio device, and an optical device.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
41 words
A method as set forth in claim 1, claim 2 or claim 3, wherein the inputted information specifies that a volume of the alerting indicator be muted, and wherein the alerting indicator volume is muted in response to the inputted information.
Claim 5
Independent Claim
31 words
A method as set forth in any preceding claim, wherein the step of operating is performed by inputting information to a controller via at least one unlocked key of a keypad.
Claim 6
Independent Claim
24 words
A method as set forth in any preceding claim, wherein the alerting indicator level is increased automatically when the incoming call is responded to.
Claim 7
Independent Claim
49 words
A method as set forth in any preceding claim further comprising the steps of: operating a user interface for inputting information to the controller of the radiotelephone, the information specifying that the alerting indicator level be increased; and in response to the inputted information, increasing the alerting indicator level.
Claim 8
Independent Claim
65 words
A method as set forth in any one of claims 2 to 5, further comprising the step of: maintaining the alerting indicator at a reduced level for subsequent incoming calls until information in input to the controller via operation of the user interface, which information specifies that the alerting indicator level be increased; and in response to the inputted information increasing the alerting indicator level.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
143 words
A radiotelephone comprising means for varying the level of an audio alerting indicator, comprising: a receiver for receiving an incoming call signal; a controller having an input coupled to an output of said receiver, said controller receiving a message indicating the reception of an incoming call signal from said receiver; audio circuit means having an input coupled to an output of said controller, said audio circuit means being responsive to signals received from said controller for generating an audible alerting indicator, and for varying a volume of said audible alerting indicator; and a user interface including a plurality of keys for inputting information to said controller; wherein said controller is responsive to the inputted information for signalling said audio circuit means to vary the alerting indicator volume in accordance with said inputted information during a time that said alerting indicator is being generated.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
45 words
A radiotelephone as set forth in claim 9 wherein said controller signals said audio circuit means to vary the alerting indicator volume by an amount that is a function of an amount of time that at least one of the plurality of keys is depressed.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
38 words
A radiotelephone as set forth in claim 9 wherein said controller signals said audio circuit means to vary the alerting indicator volume by a predetermined amount for each depression of at least one of the plurality of keys.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
24 words
A radio telephone as set forth in any one of claims 9 to 11, wherein said audio circuit means reduces the alerting indicator volume.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim
71 words
A radiotelephone as set forth in claim 12, wherein said controller further comprises timing means having an associated predetermined timeout value, said timing means measuring the time elapsed from when said controller first receives a message from said receiver indicating the reception of an incoming call, and wherein said controller signals said audio circuit means to increase the alerting indicator volume when the measured elapsed time equals said predetermined timeout value.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim
33 words
A radiotelephone as set forth in claim 12 or claim 13, wherein said controller is responsive to a call being terminated for signalling said audio circuit means to increase the alerting indicator volume.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim
45 words
A radiotelephone as set forth in claim 12, claim 13 or claim 14, and wherein said controller is also responsive to inputted information for signalling said audio circuit means to increase the alerting indicator volume to an original volume in accordance with said inputted information.
