Abstract

Abstract A bias current controlling circuit (2) minimizes the power consumption of a high-frequency power amplifier (3) incorporated in a battery powered portable telephone by controlling a bias current (BS) supplied to the high-frequency power amplifier (3) in such a manner that an output signal (OUT2) of the high-frequency power amplifier increases the distortion as large in an allowable range as possible, because the bias current is inversely proportional to the magnitude of the distortion.
