The recording medium according to claim 1, characterized in that said menu information to be recorded in said recording area (95) in said second area (94, 95) is comprised of video data and audio data or sub-picture data, which is reproducible in a same time slot as said video data.

A recording medium characterized by comprising: a first area (96) for recording data; and a second area (94) where management information for managing said first area (96) is recorded and information for producing at least one menu information to be used at a time of checking and selecting contents of various kinds of data recorded in said first area (96) and corresponding to said contents is recorded, said second area (94) having a recording area (98, VTSI_MAT, VTS_ATS_Ns, VTS_AST_ATR, VTS_SPST_Ns, VTS_SPST_ATR) where information for producing said menu information is recorded and a management area (98, 99, 100, 101) where management information for managing said first area (96) is recorded.

The recording medium according to claim 4, characterized in that video data and audio data or sub-picture data reproducible in a same time slot as said video data are recorded, separated in a plurality of program chains, in said first area (96) in such a hierarchical structure that each program chain consists of a plurality of programs each comprised of a plurality of cells, each cell consisting of a plurality of packs; and said information for producing said menu information to be recorded in said recording area (98) in said second area (94) is information for producing a program menu corresponding to each program, an audio menu corresponding to audio data and a sub-picture menu corresponding to sub-picture data.

A recording medium characterized by comprising: at least one first area (72) for recording data; and a second area (71) where management information for managing said first area (72) is recorded and at least one menu information to be used at a time of checking and selecting contents of various kinds of data recorded in said first area (72) and corresponding to said contents is recorded, said second area (71) having a recording area (76) where said menu information is recorded and a management area (81) where a recording position of menu information in said recording area (76) is recorded for a content of each data corresponding to said menu information.

The recording medium according to claim 6, characterized in that video data and audio data or sub-picture data reproducible in a same time slot as said video data are recorded, separated in a plurality of program chains, in said first area (72) in such a hierarchical structure that each program chain consists of a plurality of programs each comprised of a plurality of cells, each cell consisting of a plurality of packs; and said menu information to be recorded in said recording area (76) in said second area (71) is a title menu associated with said program chains.

The recording medium according to claim 6, characterized in that said menu information to be recorded in said recording area (76) in said second area (71) is comprised of video data and audio data or sub-picture data, which is reproducible in a same time slot as said video data.

A recording medium characterized by comprising: at least one first area (72) for recording data; and a second area (71) where management information for managing said first area (72) is recorded and information for producing at least one menu information to be used at a time of checking and selecting contents of various kinds of data recorded in said first area (72) and corresponding to said contents is recorded, said second area (71) having a recording area (79, TT_SRPT, PTT_Ns, TT_Ns) where information for producing said menu information is recorded and a management area (78, 79, 80) where management information for managing said first area (72) is recorded.

A recording medium characterized by comprising: at least one first area (72) for recording data; and a second area (71) where management information for managing said first area (72) is recorded, said first area (72) having a third area (96) for recording data, a fourth area (95) where at least one first menu information to be used at a time of checking and selecting contents of various kinds of data recorded in said first area (72) and corresponding to said contents is recorded, and a fifth area (111) where a recording position of said first menu information in said fourth area (95) is recorded for a content of each data corresponding to said first menu information, said second area (71) having a sixth area (76) where second menu information corresponding to said management information is recorded and a seventh area (81) where a recording position of said second menu information in said sixth area (76) is recorded for a content of each data corresponding to said second menu information.

A recording apparatus for recording data on a recording medium (10) having a first area (96) for recording data and a second area (94) for recording management information for managing said first area (96), characterized by comprising: first supply means (201, 202, 203) for supplying information for producing said data; second supply means (205) for supplying information for producing at least one menu information to be used at a time of checking and selecting contents of various kinds of data and corresponding to said contents; encoding means (106, 207, 208) for encoding data supplied by said first supply means (201, 202, 203); first recording means (232) for recording said data encoded by said encoding means (106, 207, 208) in said first area (96); and second recording means (232) for recording said information for producing said menu information, supplied by said second supply means (205), in said second area (94).

A recording apparatus for recording data on a recording medium (10) having at least one first area (72) for recording data and a second area (71) for recording management information for managing said first area (96), characterized by comprising: supply means (201, 202, 203) for supplying said data and at least one menu information to be used at a time of checking and selecting contents of various kinds of data and corresponding to said contents; encoding means (106, 207, 208) for encoding said data and menu information supplied by said supply means (201, 202, 203); first recording means (232) for recording said data encoded by said encoding means (106, 207, 208) in said first area (72); and second recording means (232) for recording said menu information encoded by said encoding means (106, 207, 208) in a recording area (76) in said second area (71) and recording a recording position of said menu information in said recording area (76) in a management area (81) for a content of each data corresponding to said menu information.

A recording apparatus for recording data on a recording medium (10) having at least one first area (72) for recording data and a second area (71) for recording management information for managing said first area (72), characterized by comprising: first supply means (201, 202, 203) for supplying said data; second supply means (205) for supplying information for producing at least one menu information to be used at a time of checking and selecting contents of various kinds of data and corresponding to said contents and management information for managing said first area (72); encoding means (106, 207, 208) for encoding said data supplied by said first supply means (201, 202, 203); first recording means (232) for recording said data encoded by said encoding means (106, 207, 208) in said first area (72); and second recording means (232) for recording said information for producing said menu information, supplied by said second supply means (205), in a recording area (79) in said second area (71) and recording said management information for managing said first area (72) in a management area (78 to 80).

A reproducing apparatus for reproducing data from a recording medium (10) having a first area (96) for recording data, and a second area (94, 95) where management information for managing said first area (96) is recorded and at least one menu information to be used at a time of checking and selecting contents of various kinds of data recorded in said first area (96) and corresponding to said contents is recorded, said second area (94, 95) having a recording area (95) where said menu information is recorded and a management area (111) where a recording position of menu information in said recording area (95) is recorded for a content of each data corresponding to said menu information, said reproducing apparatus characterized by comprising: extraction means (50) for extracting recording positions of various desired menu information in said recording area (95) from said management area (111); recording means (56A) for recording said recording positions of said various desired menu information extracted by said extraction means (50); indicating means (4, 5) for indicating one of said plurality of menus; first reading means (50) for reading a recording position of menu information, indicated by said indicating means (4, 5), from said recording means (56A); second reading means (30, 50, 52, 56) for reading menu information from said recording area (95) in accordance with said recording position of said menu information read by said first reading means (50); and conversion means (58, 60, 62, 64, 6, 8) for converting said menu information read by said second reading means (30, 50, 52, 56) to a reproduction output.
