Abstract

Abstract A card-receiving connector system for a miniature circuit card. A card holder (18) receives a card, and a frame (46) is adapted for locating the card holder in an operative position thereon and includes spring contacts mounted therein for engagement with electronic circuitry on the card. Complementary interengaging latches (102, 44) are provided between the frame and the card holder for holding the card holder in the operative position. An eject mechanism (76) is mounted on the frame for ejecting the card holder from its operative position. An unlatching mechanism (106) is operatively associated with the eject mechanism for unlatching the interengaging latches in response to movement of the eject mechanism. Lost motion (92, 94) is built into the eject mechanism (76) to permit unlatching of the latches (102, 44) prior to ejecting the card holder from its operative position.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 113 words
A card-receiving connector system comprising: a card holder (18) for a card (24); a connector frame (46) adapted for locating the card holder (18) in an operative position on the frame and having spring contacts (64) mounted therein for engagement with electronic circuitry (30) on the card (24); complementary interengaging latch means (96) between the frame and the card holder for holding the card holder in its operative position; an eject mechanism (76) movably mounted on the frame (46) for ejecting the card holder (18) from said operative position; and unlatching means (106) associated with the eject mechanism (76) for unlatching the latch means (76) in response to movement of the eject mechanism.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 37 words
The connector system of claim 1 wherein said eject mechanism (76) includes lost motion means (92, 94) effective to permit unlatching of the latch means (96) prior to ejecting the card holder (18) from said operative position.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 29 words
The connector system of claim 2 wherein said eject mechanism (76) includes an eject member (86) and an unlatching portion (106) with said lost motion means (92, 94) therebetween.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 22 words
The connector system of claim 3 wherein said eject mechanism (76) includes an actuator (78) member with said unlatching portion (106) thereon.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 56 words
The connector system of claim 4, including means (80) mounting said actuator (78) for linear movement on the frame (46), means (88) mounting said eject portion (86) for rotational movement on the frame, and wherein the actuator member is spaced (92, 94) from the eject member in an unactuated position to provide said lost motion means.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 43 words
The connector system of claim 1 wherein said complementary interengaging latch means (96) include a flexible latch arm (98) on the frame (46) engageable with a latch boss (44) on the card holder (18) when the card holder is in said operative position.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 50 words
The connector system of claim 6 wherein said frame (46) is molded of plastic material and the latch arm (98) is integral therewith and cantilevered therefrom with a latch arm boss (102) of a distal end of the arm engageable with the latch boss (44) on the card holder (18).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 45 words
The connector system of claim 1 wherein said eject mechanism (76) includes an actuator rod (78), and including secondary latch means (110) for holding the actuator rod in an actuated position in the absence of the card holder (18) being located in the operative position.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 26 words
The connector system of claim 8 wherein said secondary latch means at least in part comprises a portion (98) of said complementary interengaging latch means (96).
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 41 words
The connector system of claim 1, including on/off contact means (70) on the frame (46) and corresponding circuit means (34) on the card holder (18) to close the contact means in response to locating the card holder in said operative position.
