Claim 1
Independent Claim 52 words
A collagen matrix comprising collagen fibrils the molecules or microfibrils of which are being cross-linked to one another by a cross-linking agent, the cross-linking agent comprising a reducing sugar or a reducing sugar derivative of a kind which is capable of existing in an aldehyde or ketone state in an aqueous solution.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 86 words
A collagen matrix according to Claim 1, wherein the reducing sugar or reducing sugar derivative is a compound represented by one of the following formulae I or II: wherein: R¹ is H or lower alkyl or alkylene, an amino acid, a peptide, a saccharide, purine or pyrimidine base, a phosphorylated purine or pyrimide base; n is an integer between 2-9, and p and q are each independently an integer between 0-8, provided that p and q together are at least 2 and not more than 8.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 23 words
A collagen matrix according to Claim 2, wherein the reducing sugar is a diose, triose, tetrose, pentose, hexose, septose, octose, nanose or decose.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 36 words
A collagen matrix according to Claim 3, wherein the reducing sugar is a member selected from the group consisting of glycerose, threose, erythrose, lyxose, xylose, arabinose, ribose, allose, altrose, glucose, mannose, gulose, idose, galactose and talose.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 39 words
A collagen matrix according to any one of Claims 1-4, comprising also one or more of an antimicrobial agent or an anti-inflammatory agent or a factor having tissue inductive properties said agent or factor being immobilized within the matrix.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 14 words
An implantable device comprising a matrix according to any one of the preceding claims.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 14 words
A device according to Claim 6, being a membrane barrier for guided tissue regeneration.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 27 words
A matrix comprising a first component selected from the group consisting of mineralized bone, deproteinazed bone and synthetic hydroxyapatite and a second component being osteocalcin or vitronectin.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 6 words
A matrix comprising heat-treated demineralized bone.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 18 words
A matrix according to Claim 8 or 9 for use as a space maintainer in guided tissue regeneration.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 21 words
A kit for use in guided tissue regeneration, comprising a tissue regeneration guidance membrane of Claim 7 and a space maintainer.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 28 words
A kit according to Claim 11, wherein the space maintainer is selected from the groups consisting of mineralized bone, deproteinazed bone and synthetic hydroxyapatite and demineralized, heat-treated bone.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 30 words
A process for the preparation of a collagen matrix comprising reacting collagen with a reducing sugar under conditions wherein molecules and fibrils of the collagen become cross-linked to one another.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 22 words
A process according to Claim 9, comprising dehydrating the collagen matrix and then subjecting the dehydrated collagen matrix to critical point drying.
