Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim
125 words
Method for controlling the execution of an audio video interactive
(AVI) program in an audio video interactive receiver receiving a packet stream
including a directory and an AVI program having an associated identifier in the
directory, comprising the steps of: loading the AVI program into a memory (328) in response to the
presence of the AVI program in the packet stream; beginning execution (63) of the loaded AVI program; monitoring the packet stream for an AVI program different from the
executing AVI program; and interrupting (65) and minimizing (67) the resources allocated to
executing the AVI program when said AVI program different from said AVI
program is detected in the packet stream, and wherein minimizing includes
removing said executing AVI program from said memory (328).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
61 words
The method of claim 1, wherein the step of interrupting and
minimizing the executing AVI program comprises the steps of: suspending execution of the AVI program; storing the identifier of the AVI program in a block of memory; and storing the execution state and environment of the AVI program at
the time of suspending execution, in said block of the memory.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
78 words
The method of claim 2, wherein the step of loading the AVI
program comprises the steps of: loading an AVI program in memory; searching previously stored blocks of memory for a block containing
an identifier matching that of the loaded AVI program; and if there is a matching memory block, setting the execution state and
environment of the loaded AVI program to the execution state and environment
for the corresponding AVI program stored in said block of memory.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
25 words
The method of claim 3, further including: after said setting step, holding loaded said AVI program in an
inactive state until activation by user input.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
26 words
The method of claim 4, further comprising the step of displaying
an interactive program indicator which indicates that an AVI program is loaded
but not executing.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
92 words
Method for controlling the execution of the AVI program in an
audio video interactive (AVI) receiver receiving a packet stream including an
AVI program and execution signals, comprising the steps of: loading the AVI program into a memory in response to the presence
of the AVI program in the packet stream; beginning execution of the loaded AVI program; monitoring the packet stream for special signal packets; and halting execution, and unloading the executing AVI program from the
memory in response to detection of a special signal packet containing an end
execution signal.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
99 words
The method of claim 6, further including the steps of: suspending execution of the AVI program in response to a suspend
execution signal in the packet stream, wherein suspending execution includes
storing the execution state of the AVI program being suspended and dumping
the AVI program from memory; and continuing execution of a previously suspended AVI program in
response to a continue execution signal in the packet stream, wherein
continuing executing includes reloading the previously suspended AVI program
from data in said packet stream and presetting execution states with data
stored when the previously suspended AVI program was suspended.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
44 words
The method of claim 7, wherein the suspend execution signal in
the packet stream is represented by repetitive suspend execution signal
packets during a suspend time interval, and the continue execution signal is
represented by a cessation of said repetitive suspend execution signal packets.
