Abstract

Abstract A stent delivery system for a balloon expandable stent 2 comprises a balloon catheter 1 with a tubular shaft 3 and an elongated dilatation balloon 5. The tubular shaft 3 comprises a guidewire lumen 8 with an entry 9 for the guidewire 10 distal of the balloon 5 and an exit 11 for the guidewire proximal of the balloon. Means for preventing expansion of balloon segments comprise a sleeve 12 mounted on the tubular shaft with a distal end 14 surrounding a portion of the proximal end 6 of the balloon and a proximal end 13 removably attached to a portion of the tubular shaft. <IMAGE>

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 172 words
A balloon catheter (1, 31) comprising a tubular shaft (3, 32) having a proximal end and a distal end, an elongated dilatation balloon (5, 34) with proximal and distal ends, said balloon being mounted on said tubular shaft in the vicinity of the distal end thereof, and means (12, 42) secured on the tubular shaft (3, 32) for preventing expansion of balloon segments, characterized in that the tubular shaft (3, 32) comprises a guidewire lumen (8, 38) with an entry (9, 39) for the guidewire (10, 40) distal of the balloon (5, 34) and an exit (11, 41) for the guidewire (10, 40) distal of the proximal end of the tubular shaft (3, 32), and wherein the means (12, 42) for preventing expansion of balloon segments are attached to the tubular shaft (3, 32) either distal of the exit (11) for the guidewire (10) if said exit is proximal of the balloon (5) or proximal of the exit (41) for the guidewire (40) if said exit is distal of the balloon (34).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 166 words
A stent delivery system for a balloon expandable stent (2), comprising a balloon catheter (1, 31) with a tubular shaft (3, 32) having a proximal end and a distal end, and an elongated dilatation balloon (5, 34) with proximal and distal ends, said balloon being mounted on said tubular shaft in the vicinity of the distal end thereof, characterized in that the tubular shaft (3, 32) comprises a guidewire lumen (8, 38) with an entry (9, 39) for the guidewire (10, 40) distal of the balloon (5, 34) and an exit (11, 41) for the guidewire (10, 40) distal of the proximal end of the tubular shaft (3, 32), and wherein means (12, 42) for preventing expansion of balloon segments are attached to the tubular shaft (3, 32) either distal of the exit (11) for the guidewire (10) if said exit is proximal of the balloon (5) or proximal of the exit (41) for the guidewire (40) if said exit is distal of the balloon (34).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 36 words
A balloon catheter according to claim 1 or a stent delivery system according to claim 2, wherein the means (12, 42) for preventing expansion of balloon segments are removably attached to the tubular shaft (3, 32).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 36 words
A balloon catheter according to claim 1 or a stent delivery system according to claim 2, wherein the means (12, 42) for preventing expansion of balloon segments are permanently attached to the tubular shaft (3, 32).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 75 words
A balloon catheter according to claim 1 or a stent delivery system according to claim 2, wherein the means for preventing expansion of balloon segments comprise a sleeve (12, 42) having proximal and distal ends (13, 43 - 14, 44) one of which is surrounding a portion of the tubular shaft (3, 32) in the vicinity of the balloon (5, 34) and the other of which is surrounding a portion of the balloon (5, 34).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 57 words
A balloon catheter or a stent delivery system according to claim 5, further comprising latch means (16, 46, 50, 52, 54) cooperating with catch means (17, 47, 51, 53, 55) for attaching one end of the sleeve (12, 42) to the portion of the tubular shaft (3, 32) surrounded by that end of the sleeve (12, 42).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 73 words
A balloon catheter according to claim 1 or a stent delivery system according to claim 2, further comprising elastic balloon jacket means (18) for enclosing a portion of the balloon (5), said jacket means having a proximal end and a distal end, and wherein one of said ends is adapted to the tubular shaft (3) and the other of said ends is adapted to the means (12) for preventing expansion of balloon segments.
