Abstract
Abstract The method involves use of a terminal (PA) which functions with a user module (SIM). An authentication key is calculated for the module and network as a function of data in the user secret identification key (Ku), a terminal identification parameter (IMTI) and a first random number. A further key is calculated using information supplied by the terminal, and a second random number. The codes have to be established and communication authenticated before the main communication between the terminal and the network can take place. <IMAGE>
