Abstract

Abstract Base Station Transceiver Equipment (10) is provided such as for use in a cellular radio telephone system (fig. 3). A receiver (32) associated with a first base station transmitter in a first cell has means for monitoring a parameter of transmissions from a second base station transmitter (34-38) remotely located from the first base station transmitter. The receiver further comprises means for reporting, to a central management centre (40) responsible for the operational control of base stations (32-28) in the cellular radio communications system, if a change in said parameter is detected. The operation management centre (40) has means for determining whether the reported change in said parameter is due to a fault in the second base station transmitter and not to a specific operational change anticipated by the operation management centre.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 4
Claim 1
Independent Claim 146 words
A cellular radio communications system comprising: a) a central management centre responsible for the operational control of the cellular radio communications system; b) a plurality of adjacent cells each having a base station transmitter responsive to the central management centre; c) at least one receiver associated with a first base station transmitter; and d) a communications link connecting the receiver to the central management centre; wherein said receiver comprises means for monitoring a parameter of transmissions from a second base station transmitter remote from the first base station transmitter and means for reporting to the central management centre if a change in said parameter is detected; and the operation management centre has means for determining whether the reported change in said parameter is due to a fault in the second base station transmitter and not to a specific operational change anticipated by the operation management centre.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 23 words
A system according to claim 1, wherein the parameter is signal strength and a fault is reported if the signal strength drops substantially.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 14 words
A system according to claim 1, wherein the parameter is the timing of transmissions.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 21 words
A system according to claim 1, wherein the parameter is the relative timing of transmissions of the first and second transmitters.
