Abstract

Abstract In a metallic gasket in which a plate member (1) having at least one flexible metal plate (1-1,1-2) has a hole (5), a flat portion (14) formed at the periphery of the hole and a bead (2-1,2-2) disposed concentrically with the hole to the outside of the flat portion and a plate member (12) is sandwiched between joining faces, an annular stopper (6) is secured to the plate member at a position corresponding to the flat portion (14) on the side of the hole (5), and the stopper is made of a metal material different from the plate member and formed to an increased thickness at a portion for a larger gap, and formed to a decreased thickness at a portion for a smaller gap depending on the difference for the size of the gap between the joining faces.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 129 words
A metallic gasket to be disposed between joining faces, in which a plate member having at least one elastic metal plate has a hole, a flat portion formed at the periphery of the hole and a bead disposed to the outside of the flat portion concentrically with the hole, wherein    an annular stopper is secured to the plate member at a position corresponding to the flat portion on the side of the hole, and said stopper is made of a metal material different from said plate member and formed to an increased thickness at a portion for a larger gap, while it is formed to a decreased thickness at a portion for a smaller gap depending on the difference of the size of the gap between said joining faces.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 83 words
A metallic gasket as defined in claim 1, wherein the plate member comprises a laminate structure of base plates and a subplate, in which concentric holes are formed at identical corresponding positions of the base plates and the subplate, respectively, and the base plate has a flat portion and a bead concentrical with the hole to the outside of the flat portion as the periphery of the hole, while the subplate has an annular stopper at a position corresponding to the flat portion.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 19 words
A metallic gasket as defined in claim 1, wherein the stopper is press molded by using a metal die.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 86 words
A metallic gasket as defined in claim 1, wherein the plate member is a laminate member comprising two base plates, a subplate and a compensation plate thinner than the subplate, each sandwiched between said base plates, in which a stopper the thickness of which is determined depending on the size of the gap between the joining faces is disposed over the entire circumference to the inner periphery of the hole in said subplate, and said compensation plate is turned-back to hold the stopper in that place.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 131 words
A metallic gasket as defined in claim 1, wherein the plate member comprises upper and lower two base plates and upper and lower two subplates sandwiched therebetween, the inner periphery of the hole in one of the subplates is disposed to the outside of the inner periphery of the hole in the base plate, while the inner periphery of the hole In the other of the subplates is disposed at a position aligned with the inner periphery of the hole in the base plate, thereby forming the flat portion of the other of the subplates as a shelf-like peripheral edge, and a stopper the thickness of which is determined depending on the size of the gap between the joining faces is secured over the entire circumference on the shelf-like peripheral edge.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 56 words
A metallic gasket as defined in claim 1, wherein a stopper the thickness of which is determined depending on the size of the gap between the joining faces is secured by welding over the entire circumference to the flat portion of one of the two upper and lower base plates on the side of the hole.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 128 words
A metallic gasket as defined in claim 1, wherein the annular stopper has a trapezoidal transversal cross section before molding, in which the thickness on the side of the outer periphery is decreased while the thickness on the side of the inner periphery is increased, and horizontal surfaces are formed to the upper and the lower surfaces from the lateral mid portion to the inner peripheral end such that the maximum thickness on the side of the inner periphery before molding is greater than the maximum thickness on the side of the inner periphery after molding by more than 50% of a value obtained by subtracting the thickness on the side of the outer periphery from the maximum thickness on the side of the inner periphery after molding.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 78 words
A metallic gasket as defined in claim 1, wherein the hole to which the stopper is disposed is a cylinder bore hole used for an engine, the plate member has a plurality of bolt holes in addition to the cylinder bore hole, and the stopper is formed such that the thickness around the cylinder bore hole near the bolt hole is decreased while the thickness at a portion corresponding to the portion between the bolt holes is increased.
